Business success is only possible when you are serious.

We have seen some talented students from impoverished schools do very well in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams released last week.

We’ve also witnessed some students from excellent schools not impressing their parents and teachers.

While innate talents are valued, teachers agree that almost all students who transfer from one school to the next to have the potential to succeed academically.

Some of these students fail despite having the best teachers and learning environment.

The majority of students who failed to graduate reveal a lack of academic seriousness. Many of them regret not having had the opportunity to create a solid foundation for their lives.

However, many records show success for professionals and other successful people. These successes can not be attributed solely to an innate gift, well-equipped schools, and the best teachers. Their success was primarily due to their dedication and seriousness in their studies.

The situation in business is almost the same.

People who don’t take their business seriously are responsible for most companies that are in trouble or nearing failure. They are not serious about ensuring that the company succeeds, such as customer service, record keeping, marketing, and product development.

One indicator that business leaders are not serious is the failure to create structures that allow for independent business operations.

They are also often out of their offices. They abandon their business leadership responsibilities and leave untrained staff to manage the business, including crucial decisions.

They don’t market their business because they have other jobs or have fun.

Marketing is a critical business function that should not be delegated. The chief marketing officer is usually the business owner. Other staff act as assistants.

To determine if your business is serious, ask yourself if you would act the same way you were an employee and answerable to another person. This will help you decide if your business is serious.

Fourth, failing to comply with basic requirements like paying applicable business permits or licenses. Failure to adhere to tax laws and taxes is a recipe for disaster.

Your business success depends on more than your industry or the day’s economic climate. It all depends on how severe and committed you are to your business.

We find businesspeople who struggle in a booming field, just like students who fail despite being in the best school with the best teachers.

You will triumph if you put in the effort and work hard to grow your business.
