Dell’s XPS 15 has been one of the top laptops for creators over the years, and the 2024 model is the same. It combines an impressive four and a third pounds chassis with the performance from Intel’s 12-th generation 45W processors and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics and delights users with an impressive 3.5K OLED display and a powerful quad-speaker configuration.
Dell XPS 15 (2024): Price and Availability
The Dell XPS 15 9520 starts at $1,449 and is currently on sale.
It’s available in Platinum Silver or Frost colors.
The announcement was made this spring. Dell XPS 159520 will be available to purchase right now, starting at $1,449. This base model will come with an Intel Core i5-12500H processor 8GB DDR5 memory unit, a 256GB SSD, and an FHD+ display. It will not include dedicated graphics.
Design: There aren’t any changes to the design.
It is a classic Dell XPS design with a black keyboard and a silver exterior.
It has three USB ports. Additionally, it also comes with an SD card slot.
To clarify To be clear, the only things that have changed from generation to generation are internal. If you know what the Dell XPS 15 9500 was and the 9510 models looked like, then you are safe from this section.
Dell sent me the model Platinum Silver with a black carbon fiber palm rest. The model I would consider to be a classic XPS. In the days when there was only one colorway across the entire range, this was the one. Since then, the range has been expanded. The other was Frost with white glass fiber woven into the palm rest. I must say, it’s pretty cool. This second variant was introduced on an XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1. However, it recently made its way into the XPS 15. The XPS 17 comes with only the XPS iconic design.
It includes all of the ports you require if they’re USB Type-C. There are three USB Type-C ports, two of which have Thunderbolt 4. Thunderbolt is probably the most flexible port, offering 40Gbps speeds of transfer and compatible with USB4. USB4 is the USB Type-C port. On the other hand, it has USB 3.2 Gen 2 and offers 10Gbps of transfer speed. The laptop can be charged using any of the three ports, and it’s great to have a device like this one that utilizes USB Type-C to charge. It’s not common since it was for a while that Power Delivery only supported up to 100W.
A 3.5mm audio jack and a full-sized SD card slot are on the left. If you’re a professional photographer, then you’re aware of how crucial this is, and you already be aware that a full-sized card slot for SD cards is uncommon on laptops. However, it is a maker machine, which is why it has one.
Display OLED: The OLED is as delightful as ever
The screen measures 15.6 inches in diagonal with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
It is available in FHD+ and OLED 3.5K and non-OLED 4K
As you’d expect from anything with “15” in its title, the display is a 15.6-inch display. It has been 16:10 ever since the XPS 15 9500 came out. There are three choices that include 1,920×1,200, 3,456×2,160 OLED, or the 3,840×2,400 resolution IPS LCD. Dell gave me the OLED version, which is my top choice.
However, there’s one thing to remember regarding Dell’s OLED displays, which is that you don’t require these displays. The non-OLED displays are so great that you’ll barely notice any distinction. With an OLED screen, you’ll get authentic blacks as the pixels are illuminated when they’re utilized, and since there’s no backlighting, those colors are also more vivid. However, it is possible to get a stunning IPS LCD screen that can be categorized as OLED, and that’s exactly what Dell provides.
The OLED display on the model Dell provided me with clearly performed well in my screen tests, allowing 100% sRGBand, 94 percent NTSC 96% Adobe RGB and 100 percent P3. These are among the highest scores you’ll see. However, other options will be in the 90s too.
Keyboard: It is equipped with a considerable touchpad
Dell uses one of the biggest touchpads available on any 15-inch Windows laptop.
The fingerprint sensor will require that you wait for the PC to boot.
The palm rest is made of black carbon fiber. The keyboard is black, with Chiclet-style keys. The keyboard is comfortable and precise. However, it leaves something to be desired over the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, given that the ThinkPads are famous for having the most comfortable keyboards. I’ll say that although it’s not the same quiet as a regular keyboard, I enjoy the force curve more. I find that Lenovo’s ThinkPads have a wide critical depth; sometimes, they don’t seem contemporary.
Speed: Intel 12th-gen, as well as RTX graphics, make a winning combination
The Dell XPS 15 9520 comes equipped with Intel 12th-gen H-series processors with either integrated graphics, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, or an RTX 3050 Ti
Alongside 12th-gen CPUs, the second upgrade adds DDR5 memory
As I’ve mentioned, all the device upgrades are internal. It’s now running Intel’s 45W 12th-gen CPUs, which allows it to run DDR5 memory. It also comes with integrated graphics or an RTX 3050 or an RTX 3050 Ti as well as those options were available in the previous model. The configuration Dell provided me with comes with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX3050 Ti 16GB DDR5, and a 512GB SSD.
The Dell model provided me with an 86WHr battery which is the bigger of the two models. The battery’s life span is pretty good. My lowest time was just four hours and five minutes, and my highest time was 6 hours and six mins, with an average of about five and five and a half hours. Also, I left the power slider set to the highest efficiency. This is something I rarely do. However, the performance was so outstanding that I didn’t even need to adjust it. It was pretty remarkable.
