Green Trek, a Jammu and Kashmir-based startup, was established in the year 2000 by Satinder Nath Gupta along with his younger son Sandeep Gupta and uses extraction metallurgy to solve the issue of pollution.

An incubation project of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi uses green technology, which requires no energy, does not require electricity or furnace, is free of pollution, and can convert the waste generated by steel mills into valuable products. Steel mills create a massive amount of waste, which ends up in landfills, causing environmental pollution.

Green Trek, a Jammu and Kashmir-based company, was founded in the year 2000 by Satinder Nath Gupta and Son Sandeep Gupta and uses extraction metallurgy to solve the issue of pollution.

According to the officials, they use methods of clean combustion to cut the scrap into a metallic with high iron content. It is then reused by industries such as shipbuilding crushing plants, stone crushers, power plants, oil and gas stations, and power stations.

“We are currently working on a circular economic model using extractive metallurgy in which greenhouse gases are reduced , and an environmentally sustainable waste management system is in place,” Sandeep told PTI.

“The method we’ve developed is energy efficient, requires no furnace or electricity and is 100 % pollutant-free and emits minimal greenhouse gasses. The final product is a melting meal that has an iron concentration of 99.6 percent. This is then combined with other metals to create various types of high-value steel and alloy castings that are used in a variety of sectors,” He added.

Green Trek’s goal is to produce high-quality green steel products that leverage cutting-edge technology and pioneer waste management for solid waste in India and abroad.

The group signed an MoU to build an operational facility in Himachal Pradesh that will cater to the top companies such as Ultratech, ACC, and Ambuja Cement.

“The goal for the MoU is to help Green Trek to set up an environmentally friendly recycling facility to supply spares to local heavy industries, such as stone crushers and cement plants in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by its unique method of manufacturing. The government will facilitate all approvals, licenses , and permits, and assist to establish a green trek as and when needed,” Sandeep added.
