Oscars: The Best Dressed Men From Timothee Chaumet to Andrew Garfield Were Anything But Basic

Fashion-forward men were captivated by classic elegance, bright colors, and sparkle on the Academy Awards red carpet.

Sunday night’s 94th Academy Awards saw the peacocks in full force. Hollywood’s stylish men embraced classic elegance, bright colors, and beautiful jewels with equal measures. Black and navy tuxes were the most popular, but many actors and musicians chose vivid tones of red for their evening suits. These suits were made in luxurious fabrics such as satin and velvet.

Many of the evening’s most talked-about looks were accented by diamond jewelry and status watches. These included the Cartier necklace subtly draped from Rami Malk’s lapel to the multiple Cartier chains that Timothee Chalamet wore with his shirtless Louis Vuitton jacket and pants. Although it was risky and was not appreciated by many on social media, it is undeniable that his fans loved it.

Although the evening was not as spectacular as a Billy Porter fashion moment or a Billy Porter fashion moment, it did make a statement that Hollywood’s A-list men have moved into more adventurous territory with their red carpet style. These are the ten looks that we liked from all the looks at this year’s Oscars.

The Dune actor blurred gender lines with his Oscars look by wearing an Oscars-inspired embroidered lace jacket and tailored pants from Louis Vuitton’s womenswear collection. The suit was paired with Cartier jewelry, including matching rings and a Panthere pendant.

Kodi Smit-McPhee in Bottega Veneta

The Power of the Dog’s best-supporting actor nominee has become a red-carpet superstar for his forward-thinking choices. Sunday night was no exception. Smit-McPhee was dressed in a stunning double-breasted suit by Bottega Veneta in powder blue, with Cartier diamonds. He wore a Panthere watch that had floating diamonds on its dial and a Cartier diamond necklace.

Will Smith in Dolce & Gabbana

The King Richard best actor winner caused a “What just occurred?” The “What just happened?” news frenzy was caused by his altercation late in the broadcast with Chris Rock, which unfortunately overshadowed the moment that should have been a triumphant one for the star. Dolce & Gabbana has been faithful throughout the awards season. He wore three-piece evening suits with a luxurious addition of a waistcoat. His Oscars best look was a Made to Measure black wool mohair tuxedo with peak lapels and micro jacquard accents. The waistcoat, which had a double-breasted design, featured an exaggerated lapel, “constructed in the Sicilian traditions,” the house said. The suit was completed by a white poplin shirt, a black silk-satin ascot, and a single Cartier diamond earring, worn as a tie-stud.

Andrew Garfield, Saint Laurent

Andrew Garfield JEFF KRAVITZ/FILMMAGIC

Boom! The Tick, Tick… Boom! Star and his stylist Warren Alfie Baker have had a great run with Saint Laurent this year. This extended to Sunday’s look Sunday evening. Garfield wore a double-breasted jacket made of burgundy velvet and was paired with a black shirt, bow tie, and tuxedo trousers. Garfield’s look was completed by a signet ring made of 18-karat gold and an Omega watch.

Rami Malek in Prada

The No Time to Die star widely appreciated Prada’s mohair tuxedo in satin lapels and a Prada mohair jacket. But it was his Cartier pocket gem — Cartier’s name for the jeweled chain that decorates a jacket lapel — that was most noticed by everyone. Malek wore Cartier’s Tank Must watch and Santos de Cartier Cufflinks in sterling silver and black lacquer.

Simu Liu in Versace

One of the most memorable moments on the Oscars red carpet was Simu Liu, a Shang-Chi star. He looked stunning in Atelier Versace’s custom red wool evening dress. The jacket was finished with gold Medusa buttons, and his white shirt had a harness detail. According to the label, it took approximately 100 hours to make the suit. Omega also provided a watch for the actor.

Judas and Black Messiah wore Alessandro Michele’s bright green satin evening jacket. It was beautifully tailored in a double-breasted silhouette, with black lapels. The look was paired with black Gucci tuxedo pants and patent-leather oxfords from Giuseppe Zanotti.

The Dune star wore outfit viewers wanted to see in person. His Etro jacket was made of a jacquard-paisley print, which looked subtle but was a luxurious, sumptuous fabric.

Benedict Cumberbatch in Giorgio Armani

The Power of the Dog’s best actor nominee exuded elegance in a Giorgio Armani Made to Measure Tuxedo. It was a black one-button style with satin peak lapels, paired with a white shirt and black bow tie. A lapel pin supporting Ukraine was his only accessory. Cumberbatch’s actress wife Sophie Hunter looked stunning in a tulle-and-fishnet dress from Dior Haute Couture’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

Kevin Costner in Gucci

Kevin Costner was on stage to present the best director award. It is evident from the beginning that his tuxedo wasn’t only elegant but was also well-fitted. The Gucci two-button Tuxedo features satin peak lapels. He paired the suit perfectly with a black silk bow tie and a white covered-placket nightshirt. Costner walked the red carpet together with Christine Baumgartner and finished his look by wearing cufflinks, a Chopard watch, and a pair of Chopard cufflinks.
