This Innovation Award at the Suffolk Business Awards 2024 will be awarded to a company that creates new standards and delivers remarkable results. Prof. Gurpreet Jagpal from the University of Suffolk, an award judge, discusses why innovation is essential for companies.

What made you want to be a part of the Suffolk Business Awards? Suffolk Business Awards?

My position as pro-vice-chancellor for business and entrepreneurship includes overseeing Suffolk Business School and the university’s entrepreneurial activities and business engagement.

We are extremely outward-focused in all we do. We are constantly looking to partner with disruptive and innovative individuals and businesses to assist their growth and encourage them to join us.

What can you contribute to the process of judging?

Over the past 20 years of higher education management, I’ve had the privilege to work with creative teachers and companies worldwide. I have a global perspective combined with a profound knowledge of Suffolk’s business requirements.

What have your past experiences with judging been like?

Every experience of the judging process is a huge responsibility. In almost every instance, the entries for awards are of a very excellent standard, and winning could have a significant impact on the company.

This means that I give attentive consideration to the decision-making process – it’s an honour to be a judge, and the results have always been extremely enriching.

What motivates you in your business?

Businesses have a mission to tackle a specific issue or challenge, and my motivation is seeing the positive effect we are making on other people.

It’s always inspiring to hear about the success stories because of our work. This motivates us to carry on our work and strive to become more creative and creative.

What do you look for in a winner?

I’ll specifically be seeking out a person who has proven true innovation through an innovative item or product that has the potential to disrupt the market and solves issues that can change the lives of people.

Awards Criteria for award

Judges will look for an innovative company that has created a ground-breaking solution or product or created a disruptive idea within an established industry and is backed by an established and clear strategy to implement and grow.

It is essential to provide evidence of the firm’s stated values and goals for adaptability and change and its understanding of the environmental impact and its strategy, and proof of its growth in financials and investments.
